TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING, based in Fukuyama, Japan, said its Philippine unit, TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), has delivered the world’s first methanol dual-fuelled Kamsarmax bulk carrier.

The vessel was delivered on 15 January and named Brave Pioneer at a ceremony attended by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The company said the ship will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 10% compared with conventional vessels, alongside cuts of around 80% in nitrogen oxides and 99% in sulphur oxides. It added that the use of green methanol could further lower emissions.

The Kamsarmax design features a shallow and low air draft, allowing access to a wide range of ports, including Kamsar in Guinea.
