Yanmar Power Solutions Co., Ltd., a Japan-based developer of marine and land-based engines and part of Yanmar Holdings, has acquired land in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, for a new facility focused on next-generation fuel technologies.
The site, located in the Phoenix industrial zone, will host a factory where the company plans to carry out activities including test operations of marine hydrogen engines. Yanmar said the move is intended to prepare for a future rise in demand for both marine and land-use engines while reinforcing its production and development framework.
The planned plant will form part of a broader effort to reorganise and strengthen Yanmar Power Solutions’ manufacturing system, including its existing factories. By expanding testing and production capabilities, the company aims to support the rollout of engines capable of operating on low- and zero-carbon fuels.
Operations at the new facility are expected to begin around March 2029, with the site serving as a base for development and validation work tied to alternative-fuel powertrains.
The marine sector is stepping up efforts to bring decarbonisation technologies to market as it works towards carbon neutrality by 2050. Engine manufacturers are increasingly investing in infrastructure to test and scale propulsion systems using fuels such as hydrogen, methanol and ammonia, although widespread commercial deployment remains at an early stage.
Yanmar said it will continue leveraging its engine development and manufacturing expertise to advance next-generation fuel-compatible powertrains while building the production systems needed to support future uptake.
