Finnish energy firm Gasum has bunkered 120 mt of bio-LNG to Preem’s tanker Astana in Gothenburg, Sweden, demonstrating that bio-LNG is an immediately deployable solution for cutting shipping emissions.

The fuel, produced from waste-based feedstocks such as manure, food waste, and agricultural residues, can be used in dual-fuel LNG vessels without modifications and blended with fossil LNG in varying ratios.

Gasum notes that bio-LNG typically offers a 90% reduction in life cycle emissions compared with conventional marine fuels.

Kamrul Haque, Sales Manager at Gasum Maritime, said: “We are proud to support our customer Preem in reducing their carbon footprint through the delivery of bio-LNG. This milestone shows how collaboration between energy providers and shipping companies can drive the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable marine fuels.”
