Corvus Energy has launched a new battery system for ships called Blue Whale NxtGen.
It is designed for vessels that need a lot of energy on board and aims to offer better safety, longer life and lower overall costs. The system is also modular and scalable, meaning it can be used on many different ship types.
The new battery is built using Corvus’ NxtGen architecture, which combines a flexible design with advanced monitoring and analytics. It uses cobalt-free LFP cells that can last up to 15 years, helping shipowners reduce maintenance and support environmental goals.
The battery can charge and discharge quickly at a 1C rate, making it suitable for both steady energy use and more power-heavy operations.
“Blue Whale NxtGen is more than a new product launch — it represents a strategic step forward for Corvus Energy and the maritime industry,” says CEO Fredrik Witte. He says the company is introducing contract manufacturing, expanding its focus in China and allowing battery cells to be swapped without redesigning the system.
Ole Jacob Irgens, Head of Sales EMEA and Asia, says customers want solutions that balance sustainability with strong business value.
The first projects will be delivered in late 2026.
