LH2 Shipping has been awarded a NOK 299 million grant from Enova to develop and build two liquid hydrogen (LH₂)-powered general cargo vessels, in partnership with Strand Shipping Bergen, part of Vertom Group.
The vessels are intended for shortsea operations between Northern Norway and the European continent and are designed to operate with zero emissions at the point of use.
The new award builds on earlier Enova backing and lifts total public funding for LH2 Shipping’s hydrogen programme to more than NOK 500 million, covering four LH₂-powered vessels under development.
According to LH2 Shipping, the support demonstrates that hydrogen propulsion can be scaled in shortsea shipping while maintaining operational performance, and reinforces Norway’s role in advancing zero-emission maritime solutions.
