Moeve has signed a strategic agreement with Pretium Renovables to jointly develop a series of biomethane plants across Spain, strengthening its push into renewable gases.
Under the agreement, the partners plan to develop between four and six facilities, each with an estimated annual output of around 60 GWh.
Andalusia has been selected as the priority region, reflecting its strong potential for agricultural and livestock feedstocks.
Moeve said each plant could cut CO₂ emissions by about 14,600 tonnes per year, supporting its wider decarbonisation and circular economy objectives under the company’s Positive Motion strategy. Biomethane produced from organic waste will be used as a substitute for conventional natural gas and as a complementary input for green hydrogen production.
The partnership adds to Moeve’s growing biomethane ecosystem, which already includes collaborations with several specialist developers. The company is targeting management of up to 4 TWh of biomethane in Spain by 2030 as part of its goal to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 55% by the end of the decade.
Biomethane is seen as a key transition fuel due to its high emissions-reduction potential and compatibility with existing gas infrastructure.
