The Panama Canal Authority has signed a cooperation agreement with global marine fuels supplier Monjasa to develop sustainability initiatives in communities within the Panama Canal Watershed (CHCP).
The five-year agreement covers projects in environmental protection, community development, education, culture and social wellbeing, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
It was signed by Ilya Espino de Marotta, Deputy Administrator of the Panama Canal Authority, and Rasmus Jacobsen, Managing Director of Monjasa Americas.
The organisations said the partnership will focus on jointly designing and delivering projects addressing environmental, social and governance objectives.
It will also include initiatives related to decarbonisation and emissions reduction in line with International Maritime Organization targets, as well as the integration of ESG criteria, volunteer programmes and community engagement.
“This agreement reaffirms our commitment to working with strategic partners to promote sustainable actions that endure over time and contribute to a more responsible future,” a Panama Canal Authority representative said.
“Monjasa fuels global maritime trade and it is a privilege to further deepen our relationship with the Panama Canal Authority on this important agenda,” Jacobsen said.
