Wärtsilä, a Finland-based marine technology and energy systems supplier, said it will deliver its Wärtsilä 25 Ammonia engine and associated fuel and emissions systems for a new cargo vessel ordered by Skarv Shipping Solutions, a Norwegian short-sea shipping company.
The vessel will be built at Huanghai Shipyard in China and will be the first newbuilding to be equipped with the Wärtsilä 25 Ammonia solution. The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2025, with equipment deliveries scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
In addition to the four-stroke ammonia engine, Wärtsilä will supply its AmmoniaPac fuel gas supply system, the Wärtsilä Ammonia Release Mitigation System (WARMS) and a selective catalytic reduction system designed for ammonia operation.

Wärtsilä said total greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by at least 90% when operating on sustainable ammonia compared with conventional diesel engines, enabling compliance with EU climate targets for 2050 and exceeding the International Maritime Organization’s 2040 target.
