A tug has reportedly been struck by unknown projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

UKMTO said it received a report from a third-party source that the vessel was hit while operating about six nautical miles north of Oman in the strategic waterway.

The incident was logged at 12:57 UTC on March 6, the agency said in a security advisory.

Authorities are investigating the incident, while vessels transiting the area have been advised to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO.

The report comes as tensions remain elevated across the Middle East, with the ongoing conflict in the region raising concerns over potential threats to shipping passing through the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most critical energy transit chokepoints.
