Silverstream Technologies has surpassed 160 installations of its air lubrication system, marking a milestone in the uptake of energy-efficiency technologies across the global shipping industry.

The company said its Silverstream® System is now installed on 164 vessels, following the recent deliveries of Grimaldi Group’s pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) Grande Oriente in June and Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s Arctic Tern in July.

The milestone reflects growing demand for technologies that can deliver immediate reductions in fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, the company said.

Since its first commercial deployment, the Silverstream® System has been fitted on a wide range of vessel types, including cruise ships, container vessels, LNG carriers, Ro-Ro and RoPax vessels, and PCTCs, highlighting the technology’s application across different shipping segments.

“Reaching more than 160 vessels on the water is a significant achievement and I am grateful to our customers, colleagues and partners who have played a huge role in this success,” said Noah Silberschmidt, Founder and CEO of Silverstream.

“Shipowners increasingly look for solutions that can provide a hedge against rising fuel costs by reducing fuel consumption and emissions immediately. The growth of our installed fleet shows that air lubrication is a trusted and proven part of future-proofing strategies.”

Silverstream added that its long-term partnership with Grimaldi Group has seen the technology deployed across several newbuilding programmes. The recently delivered Grande Oriente is among the latest PCTCs equipped with the Silverstream® System as the Italian shipping group continues to invest in more fuel-efficient vessels.
