Shipping disputes could be resolved earlier and at lower cost through a new digital diagnostic tool launched by maritime mediation specialist SeaSolveX.
The free online framework is designed to assess whether mediation could provide a more commercially effective route than taking a dispute directly into litigation or arbitration.
SeaSolveX is also working with a technology partner on a broader digital platform intended to combine dispute-resolution expertise with tools that help parties identify issues and consider settlement options at an earlier stage.
The company was founded by Janci Karri, who spent 23 years handling high-value shipping disputes, and Jonathan Brown, whose legal career includes Clifford Chance, HFW, Hadef & Associates and CMA CGM.
Karri said technology should support, rather than replace, human judgement in dispute resolution.
The company believes the maritime sector has been slower to modernise its approach to disputes than other parts of the industry, despite the wider digitalisation of shipping.
Brown said the objective is to identify the core issue quickly, avoid unnecessary costs and protect commercial relationships before disputes destroy value.
