Bunkering firm Sonan Bunkers has launched Sonan Energy Panama S.A., marking its entry into the Americas and strengthening its international network, as per its LinkedIn post.

The move follows the £50 million refinancing package the company secured from HSBC UK, which agreed on improved terms to accelerate global growth.

At the time, Sonan said the funds would support the opening of a new Central American office — now confirmed to be in Panama.

The Panama hub will serve clients across the region from Canada to Argentina, leveraging the country’s position as a major maritime gateway.

The new operation will be headed by Hernán Ortiz, Managing Director, who has more than 30 years’ experience in marine fuel supply across the Americas, Middle East, and Europe.

“The launch of Sonan Energy Panama is more than an expansion — it’s a reflection of our group’s evolving identity and our unwavering commitment to the future of marine energy,” said Graham Furse, CEO of Sonan Bunkers.

Ortiz added: “The opening of Sonan Energy Panama marks a fundamental step in the growth strategy of the company and in its commitment to leading the transition towards cleaner energy solutions in the maritime sector.”

Sonan Bunkers’ network already spans London, Greece, Rotterdam, Oslo, Brazil, and Dubai, with Panama set to become a strategic cornerstone in its Americas growth.
