Guwahati, July 30, 2020: Assam government in collaboration with world Bank has started a project where marine engines will be provided to individual boat owners.
Assam transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary held a webinar to review the works of Inland Water Transport (IWT), Assam.
He said Assam Inland Water Transport Development Society is implementing the Assam Inland Water Transport Project with funding from World Bank. As part of the project a scheme has been prepared for boat owners named, ‘Jibondinga’.
The scheme aims at providing marine engines for boats registered in the Directorate of IWT, Assam at subsidized rates of 70% with additional incentives of 5% and 10% for women entrepreneurs and Women Self Help Groups respectively for which capacity building will also be a part of the scheme.
AIWTD Society will provide improved safety gears like life jackets, fire-fighting equipment and GPS with additional free insurance and warranty for 3 years according to the reports published in economictimes.indiatimes.com.
Minister Patowary asked all private boat owners and operators to avail the benefits of incentives under ‘Jibondinga’ Scheme.
The Minister directed that due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation, the last of availing this benefit under the Jibondinga scheme has been extended up to August 31, 2020. The Minister also urged upon all the private boat owners to come forward to register their boats and avail the scheme’s benefits before August 31.
