Seacon books four more multipurpose newbuilds

Chinese shipowner and operator Seacon Shipping has ordered four more 62,000 dwt multipurpose dry cargo vessels at Huanghai Shipbuilding in a deal with China Merchants leasing arm.

The Hong Kong-listed company has agreed with subsidiaries of China Merchants Financial Leasing to bearboat charter the newbuilds for up to 15 years.

The ships will deliver between August and December 2025 at $41.58m each and come with purchase options attached. The first charter is for three years and if further extension options are not exercised, Seacon will buy the vessels from China Merchants shipowning vehicles. In addition, the Qingdao-based Seacon has sealed similar sale and leaseback financing with Hong Kong-incorporated units of China Merchants for the first two 62,000 dwt ships ordered at Huanghai for delivery by November and December 2024.
