Norwegian dry bulk operator Western Bulk Chartering has appointed board member Ørjan Svanevik as interim chief executive officer.

Svanevik, the former director and chief operating officer at John Fredriksen’s Setankers Management, joined Western Bulk’s board last August. He will keep his position as he takes over from Hans Aasnæs following the news of his stepping down earlier this year.

Aasnæs joined Western Bulk from industrial investment firm UMOE Group in July 2019, replacing Jens Ismar after nearly 11 years at the helm according to the reports published in splash247.com .

The Oslo-listed Western Bulk operates in the handysize, supramax and ultramax segments, running an average fleet of 128 vessels in the second half of 2023, during which it recognised a net loss of $10.8m against a profit of $28.6m same time last year. The company is controlled by Christen Sveaas through his investment vehicle, Kistefos.
