The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and classification society DNV have renewed their long-standing partnership to advance sustainability, digital transformation, and talent development across the maritime sector.
The new MoU, signed during the Singapore Norway Innovation Conference 2025, marks the third phase of collaboration between the two organisations, following earlier agreements in 2019 and 2022.
Under the agreement, MPA and DNV will work together on research, innovation, and test-bedding projects focusing on emerging areas such as remote vessel operations, smart-ship technologies, and the use of zero- and near-zero-emission fuels. The partnership also aims to accelerate the adoption of decarbonisation solutions across the shipping and port ecosystem.
Beyond technology, both parties will continue to nurture maritime talent through initiatives like the Maritime Innovation Committee, PIER71, and the Smart Port Challenge — programmes designed to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship among the next generation of maritime professionals.
MPA Chief Executive Ang Wee Keong said the renewed MoU highlights the organisations’ shared goal of shaping the future of shipping: “By combining MPA’s regulatory and developmental expertise with DNV’s global technical knowledge, we can strengthen innovation and accelerate progress toward smart and sustainable maritime operations.”
DNV CEO Maritime Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen said the partnership will help position Singapore as a global hub for maritime innovation. “Through this collaboration, we aim to accelerate the development of green and digital solutions while nurturing future maritime professionals to lead the industry’s transformation,” he said.
