Amogy has signed a new manufacturing partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) that will see SHI manufacture Amogy’s ammonia-to-power systems in South Korea.
SHI plans to set up a dedicated production and testing facility, with the first units earmarked for Amogy’s distributed clean-power project in Pohang in 2026. The project will be the first commercial demonstration of Amogy’s technology for land-based power generation.
The agreement expands the companies’ collaboration that began when SHI invested in Amogy in 2024. SHI will now take on contract manufacturing responsibilities and will support the development of testing standards, production processes and supply chains for the technology.
Amogy’s system converts ammonia into hydrogen on-site, supplying hydrogen to a fuel cell or engine to generate zero-carbon power. The company says its modular design allows the system to be used in both industrial and maritime applications.
Amogy CEO Seonghoon Woo said SHI’s manufacturing capability will help the firm scale up as it moves toward commercialisation. SHI added that it plans to enlarge its ammonia demonstration facility in Geoje by the end of 2025 to support the work.
The partnership adds momentum to South Korea’s wider push to advance hydrogen and ammonia technologies across industry and shipping.
