Marine fuels supplier Minerva Bunkering has entered the Mauritanian marine fuels market following the award of a bunkering licence by the country’s National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNHY).
The Geneva-based company said the move strengthens its footprint in West Africa and extends coverage of its physical supply network.
Operations will initially focus on Nouadhibou and Nouakchott, supplying bunker fuel to commercial vessels and offshore oil and gas projects in the region.
“Minerva’s new operation in Mauritania is consistent with our strategy of increasing the density of the industry’s largest physical supply network,” CEO Tyler Baron said.
The company said the Mauritania business will be supported through fuel sourcing and logistics infrastructure in Las Palmas.
Supply tankers allocated to the operation include the MT Symi, MT Tethys and MT Karpathos.
Minerva said Mauritania is emerging as a growing bunker market driven by regional trade, offshore energy developments and fishing activity.
