Sunoco Marine Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of US fuel distributor Sunoco LP, has teamed up with Dutch bunker supplier Verde Marine Energy B.V. (VME) to expand its marine fuel offering into Northern Europe.

The collaboration combines Sunoco’s commercial presence across North America and the Caribbean with Verde’s physical bunker supply capabilities and operational platform in Northern Europe. Verde Marine is backed by maritime service provider and shipping conglomerate Vertom BV.

The agreement builds on Sunoco’s existing collaboration in the US with Eleven Energy and is intended to help both companies expand their commercial reach, develop new markets and introduce additional products and supply locations internationally.

Sunoco is a publicly listed US company and an independent fuel distributor in the Americas. It has physical marine fuel supply operations in Houston, Port Canaveral, Tampa, Port Everglades, Miami, Jamaica, St Croix, Barbados, Guyana and other smaller markets, supplying fuel by truck, barge and pipeline depending on location.

The partnership will give Sunoco an established operational platform in the ARA and UK markets, while Verde will gain access to Sunoco’s scale, commercial reach and international customer network.

The companies also plan to expand their offerings by adding barges, new products and ports.

“We are excited to build on the momentum and success VME has achieved over the past two years with the backing of Vertom. The progress we have made has led to this strategic collaboration with Sunoco, which will accelerate the expansion of our supply network while further strengthening our sustainability and digitalization capabilities,” said Joe Tierney, Head of Trading and Director at VME.

“Chris Todd has been a key driver behind this agreement, and we look forward to working closely with Sunoco as we take the next step in Verde Marine Energy’s growth. Our latest development in B100 supply has been positively received, and together with Sunoco we will enter new markets and offer new products.”

Verde Marine Energy will continue to operate under its existing structure. The companies said the collaboration will provide additional commercial scale to support their growth in the ARA, UK and wider Northern European bunker markets.

Sunoco and Verde plan to contact customers and vendors with further information ahead of the planned October 1 go-live date.
