Agri commodity trading company Cargill said its first methanol dual-fuel dry bulk vessel, Brave Pioneer, will bunker green methanol in Singapore for its voyage.
The vessel is the first of five dual-fuel bulkers chartered by the company as part of its maritime decarbonisation strategy.
Built by Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding and owned by Mitsui & Co, Brave Pioneer can operate on conventional marine fuels and methanol, which Cargill said could cut CO₂ emissions by up to 70% compared with traditional fuels.
The ship departed the Philippines on Thursday and will call at Singapore before sailing to Western Australia and then Europe.
Cargill said the Singapore bunkering operation will support trials covering methanol handling procedures, carbon accounting and customer demand for low-carbon freight services.
