India’s Submarine And Pakistan’s Naval Ship Visit Sri Lanka At The Same Time

New Delhi, June 20, 2023: Vagir is the latest submarine belonging to Kalvari class of the Indian Navy. It is on its operational visit to Colombo from 19 to 22 Jun to commemorate the ninth edition of the IDY under the “Global Ocean Ring” theme.

Commander Divakar. S, the Commanding Officer of the indigenous submarine, will call on Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva, the Commander of Western Naval Area. Besides the vessel will also be open for visitors and school children during the visit.

India’s High Commission and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre are preparing to hold a big event at the Colombo Port to celebrate the IDY on 21 June with senior defence hierarchy and personnel from the Sri Lankan and Indian Navies.

In the meantime, the Pakistan vessel is one of the four Type 054A/P Class Frigates from Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding, China according to the reports published in marineinsight.com.

It is a multi-mission frigate with sophisticated weapons/ sensors, including 3D radar, long-range air surveillance radar, vertical launched SAMs, towed decoys/sonar, long-range super Sonic SSM, advanced EW systems, and torpedoes. The systems also offer PN improved offensive-defensive combat abilities to deter maritime threats.
