Spain’s Mureloil has ordered a new chemical bunker tanker from Astilleros de Murueta for operations in Portuguese waters.
The vessel will feature a battery-hybrid propulsion system, allowing it to operate in electric mode for several hours in addition to conventional propulsion. It will also be equipped to connect to shore power, enabling reduced emissions while alongside.
Mureloil said the tanker has been designed for the maritime supply and transportation of liquid fuels, with a particular focus on biofuels and methanol as demand grows for lower-carbon marine fuels.
The ship will be classed by Bureau Veritas, sail under the Spanish flag, and is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2027.
