Stream BioEnergy has presented its new biomethane plant under construction in Little Island, Cork, with operations expected to begin in 2027.

Once completed, the facility is expected to process food and garden waste to produce around 80 GWh of biomethane annually—equivalent to the heating needs of about 6,000 homes—and is set to be the largest of its kind in Ireland.

The plant will also generate organic fertiliser and biogenic CO₂, supporting waste reduction and contributing to lower emissions.

The company said the project is aimed at strengthening Ireland’s energy security while advancing its shift towards a circular, low-carbon economy.
