TSUNEISHI GROUP (ZHOUSHAN) SHIPBUILDING INC. (TZS) has delivered its second methanol dual-fuelled 5,900 TEU container carrier.

Images released by the company appear to show the vessel in Maersk branding, indicating it was built for the Danish container shipping company.

The vessel is fitted with a dual-fuel propulsion system capable of operating on both methanol and conventional fuel oil.

TZS said methanol is attracting growing attention as a next-generation marine fuel because of its potential to reduce CO2 emissions and support shipping industry decarbonisation efforts.

The Chinese shipbuilding arm of Japan’s TSUNEISHI Group said the delivery builds on the successful handover of its first methanol dual-fuelled 5,900 TEU container vessel and strengthens its experience in alternative-fuel shipbuilding.

The company added that tightening environmental regulations are expected to drive further demand for alternative-fuelled vessels.
