Azane Fuel Solutions has signed a framework agreement with Equinor Energy for ammonia supply and truck-to-ship bunkering, with first deliveries planned for the second half of 2026.
The agreement covers both ammonia fuel deliveries and bunkering operations for vessels using the fuel.
Under the arrangement, ammonia will be transported by truck to the quayside and transferred directly to vessels. The approach is intended to support the early use of ammonia-fuelled ships while dedicated bunkering infrastructure is being developed.
Azane Fuel Solutions develops ammonia bunkering and fuel-handling systems for the maritime sector, including onshore terminals, floating bunkering facilities and bunker vessels.
The company said the agreement marks an important step towards establishing a commercial supply chain for ammonia as a marine fuel.
Equinor has already been involved in the development of ammonia-fuelled shipping. The energy company is supporting the conversion of Eidesvik Offshore’s Viking Energy to operate on ammonia, with the vessel expected to enter operation in 2026.
Azane is also developing ammonia bunkering infrastructure in Norway. The company said it expects its first customers to be bunkered in 2026 as it works towards establishing a network of ammonia fuel supply facilities.
The Equinor agreement provides an early application for truck-to-ship ammonia bunkering and could help bridge the gap before larger dedicated bunkering facilities become available.
Ammonia contains no carbon and can offer significant emissions reductions when produced using low-carbon energy, although its overall environmental benefit depends on how the fuel is produced.
