ALKAGESTA has joined the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA), expanding its engagement with the wider marine fuels community and strengthening its involvement in industry standards and policy discussions.

The company has been broadening its operations in recent months, adding 0.1% ULSFO supply capability in the Central and Eastern Mediterranean, increasing storage capacity in Singapore, and setting up a biofuels trading desk in Geneva.

ALKAGESTA said these steps underline its intention to play a larger part in the energy transition underway in global shipping.

By joining IBIA, the firm will gain access to working groups and regulatory dialogues covering fuel quality, operational practices and the development of cleaner bunker options. The membership also offers opportunities to collaborate with suppliers, shipowners and authorities as the sector adapts to tightening environmental requirements.

“IBIA is more than a membership — it’s a platform for shaping the future of marine energy,” said Mithat Ciftcioglu, Marine Distribution Director at ALKAGESTA. “We see this as an opportunity to share our expertise in structured trade and logistics, while learning from others who are equally committed to innovation and compliance.”

ALKAGESTA plans to take part in IBIA’s training activities and upcoming events, including the 2025 Annual Convention in Hong Kong, as it works to expand its role in the global bunkering supply chain.
