German inland shipping company HGK Shipping has installed a wind-assisted propulsion system from Econowind on one of its vessels as part of efforts to lower fuel use.
The vessel Amadeus Titanium, operated by subsidiary Amadeus Schiffahrts- und Speditions GmbH, has been equipped with VentoFoils suction wings, the company said in a LinkedIn update on Wednesday.
The installation was completed at the Port of Harlingen within a few days.
Econowind said the system can reduce bunker fuel consumption by about 10%, offering efficiency gains as operators seek to cut costs and emissions.
