US President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz is “open for business”, after Iran also confirmed the key shipping route is fully accessible to commercial vessels.

“THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ IS COMPLETELY OPEN AND READY FOR BUSINESS AND FULL PASSAGE,” Trump said in a post on X.

Iran echoed the message, stating the strait is “fully open and ready for full passage,” marking a significant de-escalation after weeks of disruption that had curtailed tanker traffic through the critical global energy corridor.

However, Trump made clear that pressure on Tehran will continue.

“THE NAVAL BLOCKADE WILL REMAIN IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT AS IT PERTAINS TO IRAN, ONLY, UNTIL SUCH TIME AS OUR TRANSACTION WITH IRAN IS 100% COMPLETE,” he said.

The Strait of Hormuz — a vital artery for global oil, LNG, and bunker fuel flows — had been at the centre of the Iran crisis, with earlier tensions raising fears of prolonged supply disruption.

While the reopening is expected to ease immediate concerns for shipping and bunker markets, the continued US blockade on Iran-linked activity suggests geopolitical risk, freight rates, and insurance costs are likely to remain elevated in the near term.
