Singapore-based shipping firm BW Epic Kosan has contracted wind propulsion specialist Bound4blue to equip its LPG carrier Helena Kosan with a 24 meter suction sail.
The retrofit is scheduled for 2026, with groundwork taking place during a dry docking later this year before the plug-and-play sail is installed.
Bound4blue says its wind propulsion technology can cut fuel consumption by up to 40%, reducing operating costs and supporting compliance with decarbonisation rules.
Bound4blue says recent eSAIL orders have come from Maersk Tankers, Marflet Marine and Klaveness Combination Carriers, with new installations completed for Odfjell, Eastern Pacific Shipping and Louis Dreyfus Company.
“Wind power was identified as having potential and, after careful studies, bound4blue’s eSAIL was selected as the system of choice,” said Jakob Bode, CEO of BW Epic Kosan.
Bound4blue has already secured contracts across a range of vessel types and sees the LPG carrier market as a new frontier for its suction sail technology.
