Global bunkering firm Peninsula is set to launch physical supply operations in Algoa Bay, South Africa, from October, expanding its African footprint with the addition of a new bunker hub.
The move comes in partnership with local logistics provider and bunker barge operator Linsen Nambi, giving Peninsula access to local expertise and infrastructure.
Algoa Bay, which covers Port Elizabeth and the Coega Port on South Africa’s southeastern coast, is located along one of the world’s busiest shipping routes. Crucially, it allows offshore bunkering without berthing, reducing costs and saving time for ship operators.
The company will supply HSFO and VLSFO in Algoa Bay.
“Our expansion into Algoa Bay is a testament to our commitment to providing consistent product availability and optionality to our global customer network,” said John A. Bassadone, CEO at Peninsula.
“Peninsula’s entry into this market is a strong vote of confidence in the South African bunker industry and highlights its long-term potential, said Durand Naidoo, CEO at Linsen Nambi.
