Baleària has completed the integration of Armas Trasmediterránea’s operations in the Alborán Sea and the Strait of Gibraltar after securing all required competition approvals from authorities in Spain and Morocco.
The acquisition adds four vessels to Baleària’s fleet. Three ships – JJ Sister, Almariya and Volcán de Timanfaya – were acquired through the Alborán division, while the Strait division includes the Ciudad de Málaga and several operating concessions. Around 250 employees will also join the company.
The transaction is part of Baleària’s wider acquisition of Armas Trasmediterránea assets announced in August 2025. The company completed the purchase of the Canary Islands operations in May under the Baleària Canarias brand.
Baleària President Adolfo Utor said the acquisition strengthens the company’s position as Spain’s leading domestically owned ferry operator and expands its presence across all national coastal routes. He added that the company plans to upgrade the acquired services by investing in the fleet, improving operations and aligning them with Baleària’s quality and sustainability standards.
Spain’s National Markets and Competition Commission approved the Strait of Gibraltar transaction in March and the Alborán operation in May, while Morocco’s competition authority cleared both deals last week.
Following the acquisitions, the Baleària Group will operate a fleet of more than 50 vessels with around 4,500 employees. The company expects annual traffic to exceed 8 million passengers and 11 million linear metres of cargo, with consolidated annual revenue surpassing €1 billion.
