Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has completed the first green methanol bunkering of its new dual-fuel container ship OOCL Wisdom, with the vessel departing Qingdao Port on its maiden voyage to Europe.

The bunkering marks the entry into service of OOCL’s first methanol dual-fuel container vessel as the carrier continues efforts to reduce emissions from its fleet.

OOCL Wisdom is the first of seven methanol dual-fuel container ships being built for the company. With a capacity of 24,168 TEU, OOCL says it is currently the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel container vessel.

The ship has been deployed on the Asia–North Europe Loop 1 (LL1) service and sailed after taking on green methanol at Qingdao Port.

Peter Pan, Director of Trades at OOCL, said the successful bunkering and maiden voyage reflected the company’s collaboration with Shandong Port Group and its commitment to decarbonisation.

“OOCL Wisdom completed its first green methanol bunkering and commenced its maiden voyage to Europe at Qingdao Port, representing a significant achievement of the deepening collaboration between OOCL and Shandong Port Group, and reflecting OOCL’s steadfast commitment to green and low-carbon development, digital intelligence and sustainability,” he said.

He added that OOCL will continue investing in fleet renewal and low-carbon technologies while providing safer, more reliable and sustainable logistics services to support global trade.
