Barents NaturGass has completed its first LNG bunkering operation for Havila Kystruten at the city quay in Hammerfest, Norway.
The bunkering took place on Tuesday, shortly after the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB) approved Barents NaturGass’ concept for simultaneous bunkering using two LNG trucks alongside the vessel.
Barents NaturGass said the inaugural operation proceeded as planned, with no operational issues reported. The company noted that subsequent bunkering calls will be used to fine-tune workflows, with the aim of shortening bunkering duration and further strengthening safety and efficiency procedures.
The supplier added that liquefied methane remains a cornerstone fuel for both current and future maritime operations, whether delivered as conventional LNG or as liquefied biogas (LBG), as the shipping sector continues to pursue lower-emission propulsion options.
