Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) has condemned the projectile strike on the Singapore-flagged containership EVER LOVELY, calling the incident an unjustifiable breach of international law.
The vessel sustained minor damage to its bridge after being struck by an unknown projectile while leaving the Strait of Hormuz at about 10:00 pm Singapore time on June 25, according to the authority.
MPA said the ship has since completed its transit through the Strait of Hormuz and is continuing its scheduled voyage.
All 21 crew members are safe and there were no Singaporeans onboard, the authority said.
MPA said it remains in close contact with the vessel’s management company and will continue to provide any necessary assistance.
The authority described the attack as “unprovoked, unjustifiable, and a breach of international law,” adding that all actions affecting international shipping must comply with international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and must not endanger the safety of seafarers or ships.
