Taiwanese container shipping line Yang Ming has taken delivery of its third LNG dual-fuel container vessel, YM Wayfinder, as it continues expanding its fleet of lower-emission ships.
The company said the vessel follows the successful entry into service of the first two ships in the series, both of which used LNG as their primary fuel during their maiden voyages.
According to Yang Ming, the LNG dual-fuel design delivers around a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared with conventional fuel oil. The vessel’s two sister ships have bunkered more than 11,158 tonnes of LNG to date, avoiding approximately 12,532 tonnes of GHG emissions versus traditional marine fuels.
From July 1, YM Wayfinder will be deployed on Yang Ming’s FE3 service connecting Asia with Northwest Europe.
The FE3 service calls at Qingdao, Ningbo, Yantian, Singapore, Felixstowe, Antwerp and Hamburg.
Yang Ming said the vessel supports its ongoing low-carbon transition and complements its YM EcoSea+ low-carbon transport service.
