NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd., Golden Island Pte. Ltd. and Yara Clean Ammonia Norge AS have signed a non-binding term sheet to explore supplying low-carbon ammonia as a marine fuel in Singapore.

The partners aim to develop a commercial ammonia bunkering business within this decade, targeting shipowners as the industry looks to scale zero- or near-zero-emission (ZNZ) fuels.

The collaboration combines shipping, bunkering and production expertise. NYK will contribute experience from LNG bunkering and ammonia vessel projects, Golden Island brings local supply and customer access, while Yara adds ammonia production and handling capabilities.

“The NYK Group operates a fleet of more than 900 vessels and recognizes the transition to ZNZ marine fuels as a critical step towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050…,” said Atsuya Nojiri.

“Golden Island is pleased to partner with NYK Line and Yara Clean Ammonia to advance the development of low-carbon ammonia bunkering in Singapore…,” said Johnny Tan.

“This partnership marks an important milestone in realizing our vision of a low-carbon ammonia supply chain…,” said Murali Srinivasan.

Ammonia is seen as a promising future marine fuel, with Singapore positioning itself as a global bunkering hub for next-generation fuels.
