Royal Caribbean Group has moved to further grow its LNG-powered fleet, confirming orders for a sixth and seventh Icon-class cruise ship at Meyer Turku.

The two vessels are planned for delivery in 2029 and 2030, although the final unit remains conditional on financing and other standard approvals.

The deal also underpins a broader strategic arrangement between the companies, locking in shipyard capacity at Meyer Turku through to 2036 and providing long-term visibility over Royal Caribbean’s newbuilding programme.

The Icon-class series forms a central part of the company’s efficiency drive, with LNG propulsion offering lower emissions of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides and particulates relative to traditional marine fuels.

Meyer Turku has already handed over two vessels in the series, while further ships are in various stages of construction, continuing a shipbuilding relationship between the two sides that extends back more than three decades.
