Japan’s shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) will continue to pursue its long-term decarbonisation strategy despite policy uncertainty, according to its president and chief executive.
In a New Year message to employees, MOL President and CEO Takeshi Hashimoto said a shift in US policy has dampened investment appetite for green technologies, while the adoption of the IMO Net Zero Framework was postponed by one year in October, adding further uncertainty to the regulatory outlook for shipping.
Despite the slower policy timeline, Hashimoto said addressing climate change remains an irreversible global trend for the industry.
While MOL may adjust the timing and scale of its investments, he said the group will continue to advance its environmental strategy from a long-term perspective, including the wider introduction of energy-saving technologies across its fleet.
