Hafnia and Socatra have named ECOMAR GIRONDE, the fourth and final vessel in their joint ECOMAR newbuilding programme.

Built at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China, the 49,800 dwt ship is a dual-fuel, methanol-capable IMO II medium-range chemical tanker.

Its delivery completes the ECOMAR series, which also includes ECOMAR GASCOGNE, ECOMAR GARONNE and ECOMAR GUYENNE, marking the conclusion of the partners’ newbuilding programme.

The vessels are designed to operate on conventional marine fuels while being prepared for future methanol use as infrastructure and supply develops. Hafnia said this approach balances current operational needs with readiness for lower-emission fuels.

The naming ceremony was held at the GSI shipyard in Guangzhou on 27 January 2026, attended by representatives from Hafnia, Socatra, GSI, TotalEnergies, Bureau Veritas and BRS.

Raphaële Guenot, Hafnia’s Head of ESG, Executive Projects and Compliance and a board member of ECOMAR, acted as godmother.

Ralph Juhl, EVP Head of Technical at Hafnia, said: “This vessel reflects a pragmatic approach to the energy transition – designed to operate efficiently today while being prepared for the fuels of tomorrow. Delivering complex vessels like this depends on long-standing partnerships, trust, and close cooperation across all parties involved.”

The vessels are time-chartered to TotalEnergies on multi-year contracts.
