The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and Port of Long Beach (POLB) have renewed their Green and Digital Shipping Corridor Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a further three years.

The agreement, first signed in 2023 with support from C40 Cities, aims to accelerate decarbonisation and digitalisation along the Trans-Pacific route, one of the world’s busiest container trade lanes.

Since its launch, the corridor has progressed from planning to implementation, including the completion of a baseline study in 2024, onboarding of industry partners for pilot trials, and the creation of workstreams focused on alternative fuels, digitalisation and energy efficiency.

The three ports have also advanced alternative fuels bunkering capabilities. MPA completed methanol bunkering trials in 2023 and has since issued supply licences, while POLA and POLB are preparing for a methanol pilot in 2026 following a joint clean fuels study.

In parallel, the partners have begun port-to-port data exchange testing and initiated pilot collaborations with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.

Under the renewed agreement, the ports will continue working with industry to support low- and zero-emission fuel deployment, expand infrastructure, and develop pilot and demonstration projects. Efforts will also focus on strengthening data connectivity, interoperability and cybersecurity standards.

MPA Chief Executive Ang Wee Keong said the partnership has “transitioned from intent to implementation,” adding that the renewal would support greater investment certainty and energy diversification for greener shipping.

POLA Executive Director Gene Seroka said the corridor is aimed at enabling zero lifecycle carbon container shipping by 2030, while POLB CEO Noel Hacegaba described it as a “green print” for decarbonising the trans-Pacific route.

The agreement was signed ahead of Singapore Maritime Week 2026, with C40 Cities continuing to act as a facilitator for collaboration among stakeholders.
