South Korea’s Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) has joined NEMO, an organisation focused on advancing nuclear energy applications for shipping and the wider maritime industry.
Established in 1973 under South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, KRISO specialises in shipbuilding, offshore engineering, maritime safety, smart maritime mobility and next-generation marine technologies.
NEMO is working on the practical deployment of nuclear technology in maritime applications, including solutions aimed at supporting low-emission shipping.
The organisation said its focus is on the safe, secure and scalable integration of nuclear technology as the maritime sector explores alternative energy pathways to meet decarbonisation goals.
